YORK, Pa. – Senior goalkeeper Ashton Wheatley added another Defensive Player of the Week honor for the Capital Athletic Conference, the organization announced Monday afternoon.
Wheatley is the only two-time winner of a women's lacrosse player of the week for the conference this season, earning the defensive honor the first week of the season on Feb. 25, as well.
The Cambridge, Md., native recorded her 50th win of her career in Saturday's conference win against then-No. 9 York College of Pennsylvania. She is ranked second in program history, just four victories shy of the program record.
In the win over the Spartans, Wheatley tallied 11 saves through 60 minutes of protecting the net, one short of a career high. She posted 12 saves in the 2013 NCAA semifinals against Middlebury College. With the 11 saves, she sits with 322 for her career; two more will move her into the top five for most saves in program history.
The senior captain also totaled a game-high four ground balls on Saturday.
The women are back in action on Tuesday, March 18, in Clermont, Fla., for a rematch of the previous two national championship games against No. 6 Trinity (Conn.) College. First draw is set for 9 a.m.
