YORK, Pa. – Senior goalkeeper Ashton Wheatley added another accolade to the 2014 season being recognized as the season's first Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week for the Capital Athletic Conference, the organization announced Tuesday.
Lacrosse Magazine's Preseason Player of the Year tallied 14 saves through two games to start this season, helping the No. 1 Salisbury University women's lacrosse team to a 2-0 start and extending its winning streak to 25. In the victories over Roanoke College and No. 19 Stevenson University, the captain has begun another great season with a 3.70 goals-against average.
With the 2-0 start, the Cambridge, Md., native now has 47 wins while protecting the net, just seven shy of the program record. The record is held by Ali Goetz (2003-06) with 54 victories.
The women get back to action on Saturday, March 1, as Salisbury welcomes Catholic University of America to Sea Gull Stadium. The game is set to begin at 1 p.m.
