YORK, Pa. – The Capital Athletic Conference announced its weekly women's lacrosse awards on Monday and, for the second time this season, junior goalie Ashton Wheatley was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Wheatley made 10 saves in an 11-5 win over No. 8 The College of New Jersey on Saturday, leading the Sea Gulls to their fourth win over a top-10 team this season. The Cambridge, Md., native caused a game-high three turnovers and also collected three groundballs in the contest.
For the season, Wheatley has a 5.78 goals-against average, which currently ranks in the top five in the nation. She has stopped 52.3 percent of shots that have been fired her way so far this season. The junior has collected 23 groundballs and has caused 10 turnovers in 12 games.
Salisbury is next in action this Wednesday, April 17, when York (Pa.) College visits Sea Gull Stadium, with the winner having the inside track toward claiming the regular season CAC title. That contest is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
