GRAND LAKE, Colo. – The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association announced its All-Region selections and six members of the No. 1 Salisbury University women's lacrosse team were honored for their play during the 2012 season, the organization announced Friday.
Seniors Allie Wheatley and Alyssa Fowler, juniors Katie Bollhorst, Lauren Feusahrens and Alyssa Hardesty and sophomore Ashton Wheatley were each selected to the Chesapeake Region first team. Each has played a key role for the Sea Gulls this season.
Bollhorst, the 2012 Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Year, leads Salisbury with 117 points, with 48 goals and a team-high 69 assists. The Severna Park, Md., native is tied for fifth in Division III with 3.29 points per game.
Feusahrens leads the Sea Gulls with 66 goals, which is tied for 39th in the nation. Allie Wheatley has added 52 goals, good for second on the team and Fowler has netted 29 goals and dished out 13 assists so far this season.
Hardesty and Ashton Wheatley anchor the top-ranked Salisbury defense, which is only allowing opponents 4.76 goals per game. That average is over 1.5 goals per game lower than the second-ranked scoring defense.
This is the second year in a row that Fowler has been named to the All-Region first team, as she was honored last year as well. Allie Wheatley was on the All-Region second team last year.
The Sea Gulls continue their run to the national championship tomorrow, playing No. 6 Middlebury College in the national semifinals. That game will be played at Montclair State University and game time is 1 p.m.
