GRAND LAKE, Colo. – After an undefeated regular season and capturing the Capital Athletic Conference tournament championship for a 10th consecutive season, the Salisbury University women's lacrosse team sits atop the IWLCA top 20 coaches poll heading into the Division III NCAA women's lacrosse tournament.
Not only is Salisbury the only remaining undefeated team in Division III, but it holds that distinction across the board for any level of women's lacrosse. For their stellar season to date, the Sea Gulls were the unanimous choice at the top of the poll for the fourth consecutive week and sixth week overall at No. 1. Salisbury captured all 20 of the first-place votes awarded.
The State University of New York at Cortland (17-1) sits at No. 2 with 376 points. Behind them at No. 3 is Gettysburg College (17-1) with 358 points. Moving up one spot this week is The College of New Jersey (14-3), who garnered 328 points. Switching places in the poll with TCNJ is Trinity (Conn.) College (16-1), with 307 points.
The CAC has four member institutions in the top 20 again this week. After Salisbury (19-0) is the team it played in the CAC championship game, York (Pa.) College (14-4). York moves up one spot this week to No. 9, which is a program high. The University of Mary Washington (13-4) remains at No. 11, while Stevenson University (9-7) moves down one spot from last week to No. 18.
Next up for the Sea Gulls is the NCAA regional semifinal, against an opponent to be determined. Salisbury received the only first-round bye in the tournament and will host the winner of the State University of New York at Fredonia and St. John Fisher College. That game is scheduled for tomorrow at 7 p.m. The regional semifinal is set for this Saturday, May 12, at Sea Gull Stadium at 11:30 a.m. Check www.suseagulls.com or www.ncaa.com for more information throughout the tournament.
