Three women’s lacrosse players named ECAC Division III Metro-South All-Stars
CENTERVILLE, Mass. – Three Salisbury University women's lacrosse players have been named to the 2011 ECAC Division III Women's Lacrosse Metro-South All-Star Team, which was announced recently.
Seniors Trish DiGirolomo and Liz Filgueras and junior Allie Wheatley all earned first-team selections.
DiGirolomo, who was also a first-team All-American, scored 38 goals and 53 assists for a team-leading 91 points in 2011 as an attack. She was also tops on the team in assists, finishing seventh in the nation in assists and assists per game (2.79), respectively.
Filgueras, a second-team All-American, led a defense which ranked eighth in the country, limiting the opposition to just 7.23 goals per game. Filgueras led the team in ground balls (29) and was tied for first on the team in caused turnovers (20).
Wheatley was also a second-team All-Region selection in the midfield with a team-best 46 goals, including five game-winners. She also paced the Gulls with six free-position goals and 43 draw controls.
All three were also named to the 2011 All-CAC First Team.
Salisbury (19-3) earned its seventh consecutive CAC championship and ninth straight NCAA tournament appearance in 2011.
