Women's lacrosse ranked No. 2 in preseason poll

GRAND LAKE, Col. - The Salisbury University women's lacrosse team finds itself near the top of the Division III preseason poll, released Tuesday by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association. The Sea Gulls will enter the 2010 season ranked No. 2, falling right behind Franklin & Marshall College, which received 15 first-place votes. Salisbury earned three first-place votes, while No. 3 Gettysburg College got two first-place votes.

Salisbury will be facing top-ranked Franklin & Marshall, at home on March 20 at 1 p.m. It will be a rematch of the 2009 NCAA Division III women's lacrosse national championship, where the Diplomats defeated Salisbury 11-10 in overtime.

This season, the Sea Gulls will face two other schools ranked in the top 10. Salisbury will face off with No. 5 The College of New Jersey on April 10 and No. 8 Catholic University of America on March 6. Salisbury's schedule also includes No. 17 Roanoke College on March 14 and No. 19 Washington & Lee University on February 24.

Salisbury was the only team from the Capital Athletic Conference ranked in the top 20 poll, though University of Mary Washington received votes in the poll.

The Sea Gulls are scheduled to begin their season on Feb. 20 at Christopher Newport University at 1 p.m. Salisbury's first game at Sea Gull Stadium is schedule for Feb. 21, when it will host CAC-foe Hood College at 1 p.m.
