Salisbury moves to No. 1 in final IWLCA coaches' poll
GRAND LAKE, Colo. – On the heels of claiming the program's first national championship, the Salisbury University women's lacrosse team has moved to the top of the final coaches' poll, released on Friday by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA).
The Sea Gulls, who topped Hamilton College 7-6 in the NCAA Division III title game on May 23, received all 20 first-place votes, for 400 points, and moved up from No. 2, while the Continentals dropped from No. 1 to No. 2 to close out the season with 380 points.
Salisbury (21-1) beat the other four teams that finished in the top five during the 2010 season as Franklin & Marshall College (355 points), Gettysburg College (337) and The College of New Jersey (313) round out the final top five.
This is Salisbury's second time at No. 1 this season, having been the top-ranked team in the nation for a three-week run beginning in late March.
Salisbury was not the only Capital Athletic Conference team to finish in the rankings as the University of Mary Washington (143 points) finished No. 12 in the rankings.
