Three members of 2010 Division III national champion Salisbury University women's lacrosse team named IWLCA All-Americans

GRAND LAKE, Colo. – The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) released its 2010 All-American teams on Wednesday and three members of the 2010 Division III national championship Salisbury University women's lacrosse program were honored. The IWLCA recognized 48 student-athletes in Division III on one of the three All-American teams for their performances on the field this season.

The Sea Gulls (21-1) had two athletes garner first-team All-American honors in senior attacker Kim Cudmore (Bel Air, Md.) and senior defender Sarah McKinley (Timonium, Md.). Senior midfielder Beth Rhodey (Fallston, Md.) was named to the second team.

This marks the first time in Cudmore's four-year career that she has garnered All-American honors. The Bel Air, Md., native played in all 22 games with 21 starts and led the team with 94 points this season. Cudmore dished out a team-high 56 assists and scored 38 goals, including three game-winning goals. Additionally, Cudmore scooped up 12 ground balls, won 19 draw controls and caused nine turnovers for the Sea Gulls. The senior leaves the program No. 3 all-time in career assists (121) and No. 4 in career points (234).

Mckinley collects first-team All-American honors for the second consecutive season. The Timonium, Md., native played in all 22 games with 20 starts for the Sea Gulls. McKinley finished second on the team in caused turnovers with 25, scooped up 24 ground balls and won 21 draw controls. The defender chipped in on the offensive end as well, as she scored one goal in a win over Hood College on Feb. 21 and dished out an assist in the Capital Athletic Conference championship victory over the University of Mary Washington on April 23.

Rhodey makes her second appearance on the All-American team as she was also named to the second-team in '09. Rhodey played and started in all 22 games for SU and finished tied for second on the team in goals scored with 44, including three game-winning goals. The Fallston, Md., native finished with 59 points this season as she dished out 15 assists. The midfielder won a team-high 43 draw controls, scooped up 22 ground balls and caused 16 turnovers. Rhodey leaves the program as the third highest goal scorer with 169 career goals and fifth all-time in career points with 232.

The three All-Americans this season bring the program total to 38; that includes 18 on the first-team, nine on the second team and 11 on the third team since 1978. SU head coach Jim Nestor has coached 27 All-Americans since he took over the program at his Alma Mater in 2002.

The IWLCA will honor the National All-Americans at the IWLCA All-American banquet on June 12, 2010 at the Crowne Plaza Valley Forge in King of Prussia, Pa.

McKinley and sophomore midfielder Allie Wheatley (Cambridge, Md.) earned honors from womenslacrosse.com as well. Mckinley was named Division III Defender of the Year by the publication for the second consecutive season. Wheatley was named “Unsung Hero of the Year” for her role in helping lead the Sea Gulls to the program's first national championship in 2010. This season Wheatley tallied 43 points on 40 goals and three assists, including 15 points during the 2010 NCAA tournament run.
