Sea Gulls finish out regular season ranked at No. 2, prepare for NCAA tournament
GRAND LAKE, Colo. – In the final regular-season rankings of the year, released by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) on Tuesday, the Salisbury University women's lacrosse team sits in the same spot it has been for the past five weeks – as the No. 2 team in the nation.
The top four teams remain unchanged as the Sea Gulls (17-1) sit solidly in second place, having received 379 points in the poll. Hamilton College (18-0) retained its top ranking, snagging all 20 first-place votes for a total of 400 points. Franklin & Marshall College (14-3) and Gettysburg College (16-3) were ranked third and fourth for the second-straight week, receiving 354 points and 332 points, respectively. The only movement in the top five came as Cortland State (16-2) nudged its way up one spot, to No. 5, with the Red Dragons earning 321 points. Last week's No. 5 team, Trinity (Conn.) College (13-3), fell to the No. 8 spot.
One other Capital Athletic Conference team was represented in the poll – The University of Mary Washington (12-5), which finished out its regular season as the No. 19 team in the country. The Eagles have been ranked in the same spot for the past four weeks.
The Sea Gulls, who were selected as a regional host for the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse tournament, will begin their quest for the program's first national title on Saturday, May 15 at 11:30 a.m. Salisbury will take on the winner of the first-round game between Christopher Newport University (13-6) and Catholic University of America (12-6).
