Goetz, Johnson and Stuart selected to play in 2009 Division III North-South game

CHESAPEAKE BEACH, Md. - Three Salisbury University student-athletes were selected to play in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association/Under Armour Division III North-South game that will take place on June 13 at the United Sports Training Center in Downingtown, Pa. The three Sea Gulls players are seniors Maddie Goetz, Holly Johnson and Sonja Stuart.

The game is part of tripleheader that will feature the Division I, II and III all-star games throughout the day. The IWLCA and US Lacrosse All-American banquet takes place that night in Downingtown, Pa.

Goetz had a strong senior season for SU as she played in 18 games with 14 starts. The Fallston, Md., native was a key contributor on defense for the Sea Gulls as they were the sixth best scoring defense in the nation. Goetz finished the season with 28 ground balls, caused 19 turnovers and won two draw controls.

Johnson had a season to remember in the maroon and gold in '09 as she was named a third-team All-American for her performance at midfield. Johnson played and started in 20 games this season and scored 10 goals. The Germantown, Md., native scooped up 29 ground balls, caused 19 turnovers and won eight draw controls.

Stuart was a major factor why the second-ranked Sea Gulls played in their second national championship game in three years. The Rockville, Md., native played and started in 21 contests between the pipes for SU. Stuart logged 1,163 minutes in goal and finished with a record of 19-2. The senior made 141 saves, scooped up a team-high 48 ground balls, and finished with a goals against average of 7.94 per game (ranked seventh in the nation). For her play this Spring, Stuart was named to the IWLCA All-American first team.

The three Sea Gulls will be joined by familiar company on the South team as six of their teammates on the squad were members of opposing SU teams in '09. The South squad will be coached by Franklin & Marshall College coach Lauren Paul.
