Stuart distinguished as ECAC Division III Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
CENTREVILLE, Mass. - The awards continue to pile up for Salisbury University senior goalie Sonja Stuart as she was honored by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) as the Division III Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week for the Metro/South region on April 15. This is her third player of the week award as she has already been honored by the Capital Athletic Conference and Nike/Inside Lacrosse. She is first Sea Gull to earn three weekly awards in one week this season. Stuart is the second member of the top-ranked SU women's lacrosse team to receive an ECAC Player of the Week award as junior Kim Cudmore was honored on March 25.
Stuart and the Sea Gulls (14-1, 6-0 CAC) defeated top-ranked The College of New Jersey 11-6 last Saturday at Sea Gull Stadium. The Rockville, Md., native recorded 11 saves for the Gulls, which ties her previous season-high as the senior recorded 11 stops in a win over No. 3 Franklin & Marshall College. At the end of the first half the score was 5-4 in favor of Salisbury. Stuart recorded eight second half saves for SU. Stuart and the rest of the SU defense held TCNJ's top goal scorer Alison Jaeger (42 goals scored) to just one assist. The senior scooped up a team-high six ground balls plus helped the Sea Gulls convert 16-of-22 clears.
