Chmielewski assists Salisbury in a rout of Wesley

SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 2 ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 24-3 victory over Capital Athletic Conference opponent Wesley College Tuesday afternoon at Sea Gull Stadium.

Salisbury junior Jessica Chmielewski put the Sea Gulls (12-0, 5-0 CAC) in great position to score early as she recorded a career-high eight assists, all in the first half. The eight points is also a career-high for Chmielewski.

Senior Sue Ackermann, the CAC Athlete of the Week, posted a six-point game in one half of play as she scored three goals and added three assists. Junior Robyn Bishop scored the game's first goal on her way to a three-goal game. Fellow junior Ashley Gender scored four goals in the opening half. Chmielewski assisted twice on goals scored by Ackermann, Bishop and Gender in the first half. Salisbury led 15-2 at the half.

In the second half of action, several SU reserves made their presence felt as sophomore Stephanie Cahill started the period strong when she scored less than two minutes out of the break off an assist from sophomore Molly McBride

Senior Alexis Morrell recorded five points (one goal, four assists) in the final 30 minutes while three different Sea Gulls recorded two points including sophomore's Meghan Ricketts (one goal, one assist), Cahill (two goals) and freshman Logan Bilderback (two goals).

SU scored the game's first 11 goals before Wesley's Jade Martin (two goals) got the Wolverines (3-4, 0-3 CAC) on the board at the 16:29 mark. WC goalie Farryn Kauffman made nine saves for the Wolverines who were overpowered by the Sea Gull attack. SU used all three of its goalies in the win.

The maroon and gold will now prepare for top-ranked Franklin & Marshall College as the Diplomats come to town this Saturday, March 29, at 2 p.m. This is a rematch of the 2007 NCAA Division III national championship game. The Gulls finished 21-2 last season as the two losses were to the Diplomats.
