Ackermann's nine points leads Salisbury to win

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Senior All-American Sue Ackermann scored five goals and added four assists for the No. 2 Salisbury University women's lacrosse team on Wednesday afternoon as the visiting Sea Gulls defeated Virginia Wesleyan College, 17-8.

Salisbury (4-0) scored the game's first four goals as Ackermann scored one and assisted two before the Marlins (0-1) got on the board. The Sea Gulls scored the game's next nine goals as Ackermann scored twice in the final minute to send the maroon and gold into the half up 13-1.

Virginia Wesleyan came alive in the second half as Jillian Boyd scored three goals for the Marlins as they outscored the Sea Gulls 6-3.

SU sophomore Beth Rhodey (four goals, one assist) added two back-to-back goals late in the second half to add some separation between the Sea Gulls and Marlins. Senior Jessica Liston (two goals, one assist) and junior Ashleigh Gender (two goals) were the other multiple goal-scorers for Salisbury. Junior Jessica Chmielewski added one goal and three assists in the win.

Salisbury heads back into conference play this Saturday as the Sea Gulls travel to York, Pa., to face the York (Pa.) College Spartans in a Capital Athletic Conference contest at Noon.
