Salisbury places two on IWLCA Honor Roll, Ackermann makes second straight appearance

SALISBURY, Md. - For the second straight year Salisbury University had two women's lacrosse players selected to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Honor Roll. Senior attacker Sue Ackermann makes her second straight appearance on the IWLCA Honor Roll while she is joined by junior midfielder Jessica Chmielewski.

The IWLCA recognized 172 student-athletes from Division III schools for their achievement in the classroom during the 2007-08 school year. Players must have achieved at least junior year status and have a minimum GPA of 3.2.

Ackermann and Chmielewski were vital parts to the success of the record breaking Sea Gulls' offense. Ackermann (exercise science major) and Chmielewski (accounting major) were the top two scorers for No. 3 Salisbury (22-1) as the maroon and gold set new NCAA records for goals (433), assists (230) and points (630) scored in a season. The previous high marks were set by the 2007 Sea Gull team.

Ackermann, the 2008 IWLCA Scholar-Athlete of the Year, led the nation in scoring with 82 goals and 70 assists for 152 points, the second-highest single-season total in Division III history. A member of the Phi Epsilon Kappa Physical Education honors fraternity, Ackermann was the 2008 Scholar-Athlete Award recipient at Salisbury and the 2008 Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Year. A first-team All-American in 2007 and 2008, Ackermann had a GPA of 4.0 during the spring of 2008. The Sykesville, Md., native finished the '08 season two points shy of tying the all-time NCAA record for points in a single-season (154, set in 1996). The two-time All-CAC first team attacker graduates as the all-time SU leader in points (321) and assists (149). She is second all-time in goals (172).

Chmielewski, an All-American second team and All-Chesapeake region and All-CAC first team midfield selection, ranked second on the team in points (92) and assists (41) and third overall in goals (51). The Woodbine, Md., native has played in 61 games for the maroon and gold in three seasons and has 136 points to her credit.
