DOWNINGTOWN, Pa. - Salisbury University was
represented in the 2008 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches
Association (IWLCA) Senior All-Star game by a trio of seniors that
helped the South defeat the North, 10-6, on Saturday at the United
Sports Training Center.
SU midfielder Jessica Liston tied the game at
four apiece with a goal in the first half. Liston received a pass
from teammate Sue Ackermann on her goal.
Kelly Phillips also participated in the game as
the Sea Gull defender helped to anchor the South defense.
After the three All-Star games, one for each division, the
annual All-American banquet was held as the IWLCA announced its end
of the year awards.
Ackermann was selected as the 2008 IWLCA Division III
Scholar-Athlete of the Year. This award joins the long list of
national academic honors Ackermann has received this season. She
was recently named the College Division At-Large Academic
All-America of the Year and was selected as a first-team Academic
All-America. She has also earned the 2007-08 Capital Athletic
Conference Women's Scholar-Athlete Award and was the female
recipient of the SU Scholar-Athlete Award. The two-time
All-American first team attacker is also a two-time CAC Player of
the Year.
One award Ackermann missed out on was the 2008 IWLCA Attacker of
the Year. Ackermann had the second-highest single-season point
total in NCAA history with 152 points on 82 goals and 70 assists in
'08 but lost out to Karen Doane from The College of New Jersey.
Doane, listed as a midfielder, scored a career-high 81 points on 67
goals and 14 assists.
