SALISBURY, Md. - Senior Natalie
Degele totaled a game-high six points as the No. 5
Salisbury University women's lacrosse team cruised to its fifth
straight victory over Capital Athletic Conference opponent Villa
Julie 23-4 at Sea Gull Field.
The starting attack line of Degele (three goals, three assists),
senior Stephanie Shores (three goals, two assists)
and junior Sue Ackermann (three goals, one
assists) combined for 15 points.
Degele opened the scoring 1:06 into the game off a feed from
Shores and one minute later netted her second goal of the game on a
free position shot to put Salisbury up 2-0.
The Sea Gulls (5-0, 2-0 CAC) would tack two more goals on the
board before VJC's Meghan Smith scored to cut the SU lead to 4-1.
Salisbury would score nine of the next 10 goals to take a 13-2 lead
into the half.
Salisbury scored the first three goals of the second half to
push its lead to 14, but the Mustangs (1-4, 0-4 CAC) quickly
responded with a pair of goals to cut the margin to 16-4.
The Sea Gulls would close out the game on a 7-0 run en route to
the 19-goal win.
Salisbury had 14 different goal scorers including freshmen
Beth Rhodey, Nina Mancuso and
Meghan Ricketts who scored their first goals of
the season.
Freshman Natalie Pappas (five saves) made her
first start of the season and recorded the victory in 30 minutes of
action.
Salisbury outshot Villa Julie 44-14 and won 20 of the 29 draw
controls. The Sea Gull defense caused 10 of the 20 Mustang
turnovers.
VJC junior goalie Kaitlin Brzozowski made 12 saves in the loss.
The Sea Gulls return to action on Saturday, March 10, as they
travel to Washington, D.C., to face CAC foe Catholic at 1 pm.
