ASHLAND, Va. - The seventh ranked Salisbury
University women's lacrosse team breezed by Randolph-Macon Saturday
afternoon with a 21-5 win over the Yellow Jackets. The Sea Gulls
were paced by junior Sue Ackermann who totaled a
game high eight points (4 goals, 4 assists).
Salisbury (2-0) jumped out early as senior Katie
Simmons scored the games first goal at the 23:14 mark to
put the Sea Gulls up one. Senior Natalie Degele
scored three minutes later and Simmons added her second goal of the
half at 19:49 to put SU up 3-0.
The Yellow Jackets (0-1) answered as Kelly Cramer pulled RMC
within two, 3-1, but the Sea Gulls scored the next seven goals to
take a 10-1 advantage. Randolph-Macon responded with three
unanswered goals of its own, however senior Stephanie
Shores closed out the half with her second goal to give
Salisbury an 11-4 halftime lead.
The second half was similar to the first half for the Sea Gulls.
Salisbury continued to pour in the goals as Ackermann scored 50
seconds into the half. After senior Ani
Khatchatoorian scored her second goal of the game
Ackermann netted the next two goals to put SU up 15-4.
The Sea Gulls continued to have little trouble finding the back
of the net as junior Alexis Morrell and senior
Kelly Mulligan each netted a goal before Ackermann
cashed in on her fourth goal of the day at the 12:40 mark.
Freshman Stephanie Cahill, Morrell, sophomore
Holly Johnson and Shores closed out the scoring
for the Sea Gulls.
Freshman Erin Will improved her record to 2-0
as a starter as she made five saves. Fellow freshman
Natalie Pappas made four stops for the Gulls off
the bench.
The Sea Gulls return to action on Wednesday, February 28 as they
host Virginia Wesleyan College at 3 pm at Sea Gulls Field. Last
season Salisbury cruised to a 16-4 win over the Marlins.
