SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 2 Salisbury University
women's lacrosse team will pay tribute to its six seniors before
the start of tomorrow's (Saturday, April 14) highly anticipated
home game against No. 5 The College of New Jersey at 1 p.m.
The Sea Gulls (12-1) have been eliminated from the NCAA
Tournament in each of the past three seasons by the Lions (8-1), a
team that holds a 12-1 series record over SU dating back to 1998.
Salisbury once again ranks among the nation's elite in scoring
offense, scoring defense and scoring margin. The Gulls rank third,
third and second in each of those categories as they average nearly
17 goals a game. Salisbury's defense allows just over five goals a
game and win by an average of 11.67 goals.
TCNJ has a defense that ranks in the top 10 in scoring defense
as it is led by junior goalie Caitlin Gregory. The defense ranks
eighth while Gregory ranks No. 4 in goals against average at 5.93.
The Sea Gull attack is led by junior Sue
Ackermann who has a team high 72 points (30 goals, 42
assists). Seniors Natalie Degele and
Stephanie Shores have totaled 46 and 42 points
each, respectively. Degele ranks second on the team in assists with
22 and third in goals with 24. Shores has netted a team-high 31
goals.
The Lions' offense is led by Karen Doane who has scored a
team-high 28 goals while Toni-Anne Cavallo has a team-best 10
assists.
Salisbury has won 30 straight regular-season home games with
their last loss, coincidently enough, coming against TCNJ on March
15, 2003.
The Sea Gulls and Lions have one familiar opponent in Ursinus
College. The Gulls beat the Bears 15-5 on April 3 while TCNJ won
18-5 on March 22.
