SALISBURY, Md. - The Intercollegiate Women's
Lacrosse Coaches Association announced its 2007 All-Region teams on
Wednesday (May 23) and Salisbury University was honored with five
first-team and one second-team selections for the Chesapeake Region
team.
Junior Sue Ackermann, the 2007 Capital Athletic
Conference Player of the Year, highlighted the list as a first-team
attack selection as she finished the season with a CAC best 119
points.
Ackermann is joined on the first-team by fellow first-team CAC
honorees senior Katie Simmons and junior
Kelly Phillips. Simmons was the best scoring
threat out of the midfield for Salisbury as she finished her senior
year with 35 goals and nine assists. Phillips ranked second on the
team with 39 groundballs and caused 15 turnovers on the nationally
ranked defense which only allowed 6.83 goals per game.
The Sea Gulls' two second-team All-CAC selections, seniors
Ani Khatchatoorian and Stephanie
Shores, were also honored on the first-team All-Region
team. Shores led SU in goals with 59 and ranked third on the team
with 16 assists. Khatchatoorian scored 24 goals and caused 17
turnovers.
Senior Natalie Degele rounded out the Sea Gulls
on the All-Region team as she garnered a spot on the second team.
Degele quietly ranked second on the team in points (82) and assists
(35) and ranked third on the team with 47 goals.
The IWLCA honored a total of 211 student-athletes on one of the
All-Region teams which makes each one of them eligible for
inclusion on the IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-American teams which will be
announced on May 29.
