May 10, 2007 Ackermann and Nestor earn CAC honorsST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The 2007 Capital
Athletic Conference champion Salisbury University women's lacrosse
team placed five players on the All-CAC team and took home two of
the three end of the year awards.
Junior attacker Sue Ackermann (Sykesville, Md.)
earned 2007 CAC Player of the Year honors as well as being selected
to the first team. Ackermann leads the team with 104 points (46
goals, 58 assists) with her point and assist totals being tops in
the CAC.
Senior midfielder Katie Simmons (Silver Spring,
Md.) earned first team honors for the second consecutive
season. Simmons has 42 points (33 goals, nine assists), 32
groundballs, 20 draw controls and 24 caused turnovers. Rounding out
the first team is defender Kelly Phillips (Massapequa Park,
N.Y.). The junior has recorded 29 groundballs, 25 draw
controls and caused 13 turnovers for the SU defense that only
allows 6.4 goals per game.
SU seniors Stephanie Shores (Glen Burnie,
Md.) and Ani Khatchatoorian (Gaithersburg,
Md.) were awarded second team honors at attack and
midfield, respectively. Shores has been the team's most lethal
scorer with a team-high 52 goals and is third with 67 points.
Khatchatoorian has 26 points (23 goals, three assists) from the
midfield to go along with 22 groundballs, 23 draw controls and 14
caused turnovers.
Salisbury head coach Jim Nestor earned his fifth consecutive CAC
Coach of the Year honor as he has led SU to a 18-1 record and a No.
2 ranking this season.
