Salisbury dominates on glass, falls at Wesley

DOVER, Del. - The Salisbury University women's basketball team dominated on the glass Saturday afternoon at Capital Athletic Conference opponent Wesley College, but the Sea Gulls could not turn that advantage into a win, dropping its contest to the Wolverines, 73-55.

Salisbury (5-8, 2-4 CAC) grabbed 51 rebounds, its second-highest total of the season, compared to the Wolverines' 30, the fewest Salisbury has allowed this year. The Sea Gulls pulled down 21 of their boards on the offensive end turning them into 14 second-chance points, but struggled from the floor, shooting just 35 percent.

Salisbury led throughout much of the first 10 minutes of play, with its largest lead being six points. The Wolverines (8-6, 3-3 CAC) ran off a 20-6 run to take an eight-point lead, which is how the game went to halftime.

The lead would be cut to as few as five points in the second half, but the Sea Gulls could get no closer.

The Sea Gulls were led by senior forward Janay Johnson (Baltimore, Md.), who posted her second double-double of the season, with 15 points and 11 rebounds in just 18 minutes of action coming off the bench.

Senior forward Kylie Hall (Baltimore, Md.) also finished with 15 points, pulled down nine rebounds and dished out four assists. Freshman forward Nicole Sisco (Fairlawn, N.J.) scored in double figures as well, finishing with 10 points, to go with five rebounds. Sophomore guard KC Curran (Malvern, Pa.) grabbed seven rebounds and added four assists.

The Sea Gulls will be back in action Monday night at Maggs Physical Activities Center when they host the University of Mary Washington. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
