Sea Gulls fall in season opener against No. 8 Baldwin-Wallace

UNION, N.J. - The Salisbury University women's basketball season got underway at the Kean University Cougar Classic on Saturday as the Sea Gulls squared off against one of the top teams in the country. Eight-ranked Baldwin-Wallace College, a NCAA tournament team from a year ago, defeated Salisbury 73-34.

Salisbury (0-1) was led by junior forwards Kylie Hall (10 points) and Janay Johnson (eight points). Hall pulled down a team-high five rebounds and added one assist while Johnson grabbed four rebounds and blocked one shot. A trio of SU freshmen had a nice debut for the maroon and gold as Glen Charlton led all first-year players with eight points and one steal. Sherrita Hall scored six points and forced two steals and blocked a shot. Freshman Katharine Curran grabbed five rebounds and forced a steal against the tough Yellow Jacket team.

Baldwin-Wallace (1-0) was led by three double-digit scorers in Amanda Schroeder (12 points), Serena Farage (10 points) and Dianadra Bremond (10 points). Ariel Brough (four points) had an exceptional game beneath the basket as she grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked two shots. The Yellow Jackets had 14 different players score. Baldwin-Wallace led 45-28 at the half.

Salisbury will play a second game in the Cougar Classic on Sunday, November 16, against Delaware Valley College at 11 a.m.
