Basketball on the Beach Coaches Clinic hosted by SU
SALISBURY, Md. -The Salisbury University women's basketball program will host the Basketball on the Beach Coaches Clinic on Saturday, October 4, in Ocean City, Md. The clinic will be held at the Ocean City Recreation Center on 125th street from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The clinic is a fundraiser for the SU women's basketball program.
The clinic offers basketball coaches, of all levels, four hours of on-court programming from coaches with over 100 years of combined coaching excellence.
Attendees are encouraged to register online or fill out the registration form (PDF) and have it postmarked by September 23, 2008. The cost of the clinic is $40 per coach or $90 per coaching staff (up to three per school) or $120 per coaching staff (up to four per school).
A quick look at the coaching presenters:
Chris Weller is a national coaching legend who earned nearly 500 victories at the University of Maryland where she led the Terrapins to three final fours, eight elite eights, 10 sweet 16 appearances and eight Atlantic Coast Conference titles. She coached five Olympians, six WNBA players and three All-Americans. Weller was named ACC Coach of the Year two times and also received the coveted Naismith National Coach of the Year award.
Jim Davis is the all-time winningest basketball coach in Clemson University history with 355 wins. The ACC coaching legend guided the Tigers to 14 NCAA tournament appearances where Clemson advanced to one elite eight and two sweet 16 rounds. Davis also won two ACC titles while at Clemson and two ACC Coach of the Year awards. Clemson had 16 players earn All-ACC honors under Davis' tutelage.
Charlene Curtis is currently coordinator of women's basketball officials for the ACC, Big South, CAA and Southern Conference and game analyst for Fox Sports Net and ESPNU basketball television broadcasts and a studio analyst for ESPNU. Curtis played her collegiate basketball at Radford and was an assistant coach at the University of Connecticut where she helped the Huskies win two Big East conference championships and make one Final Four appearance. She also earned three medals (two gold, one bronze) with USA Basketball. Curtis is a former assistant coach in the WNBA and served as a head coach at Wake Forest, Temple and Radford.
Jim Casciano is a two-time conference Coach of the Year. He guided St. Michael's to its first 20-win season and No. 1 national ranking. He has coached excellence at every level of collegiate basketball where he has amassed over 250 career wins.
All clinic attendees will have a chance to win an autographed gift from the 2008 USA Women's Basketball Team who won the gold medal in Beijing.
