Mar 6, 2008 Merkel named to the All-CAC first teamNORTH HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Salisbury University
women's basketball junior guard Monica Merkel was
honored by the Capital Athletic Conference as she earned first team
all-conference honors. The lone guard to make the first team led SU
in nine categories (five offense and four defense) in the 2007-08
campaign where the Sea Gulls finished 12-15 overall and 8-8 in the
CAC.
The junior led the Sea Gulls in points scored with 417 along
with the team's best scoring average (16.0 points per game). The
Walkersville, Md., native also led SU in total rebounds (181),
defensive rebounds (116) and blocked shots (nine).
The St. John's at Prospect Hall graduate lead the Sea Gulls to
the CAC tournament semifinal round where the maroon and gold lost
Marymount (Va.) University. The 2007-08 season was Merkel's first
since she made 12 appearances in the 2005-06 season. That year she
scored 176 points for the maroon and gold.
