Sea Gulls to host Cardinals in first round of CAC tournament
SALISBURY, Md. - The Capital Athletic Conference released the 2007 women's basketball tournament field and Salisbury University will host a first round game at 7 pm, Tuesday, February 20, at the Maggs Center against fifth-seed Catholic University.
Salisbury (14-10, 8-6 CAC) secured the fourth-seed this past week with a 75-66 home victory over Marymount (Va.) University. SU will take a two-game win streak into tournament play.
The winner between Salisbury and Catholic will face the winner between top-seed University of Mary Washington and eighth-seed Gallaudet University on Thursday, February 22.
Catholic (15-10, 7-7) dropped its final regular-season game yesterday at home to tenth-ranked Mary Washington, 58-43.
The Sea Gulls and Cardinals split the regular-season meetings, 1-1. The visiting team won in each of the two games. Catholic won 56-51 on January 17 and Salisbury needed overtime to take down CUA, 73-71, on February 10.
This will be the third meeting between the two teams in the CAC tournament in the past 10 years. The last time these two teams faced each other in the CAC tournament was in 2003 where the Sea Gulls won 54-49 in the semifinals. The year before the two teams squared off in the semifinals and the result was the same, a SU win (70-57).
Tickets for Tuesday game will be $5 for adults and $2 for students with a valid student identification card. Children under the age of five are free. All proceeds go to support the Capital Athletic Conference.
