Men's track & field heads into national championships ranked No. 18

NEW ORLEANS – The Salisbury University men's track & field team will hold the No. 18 ranking in the country heading into the 2016 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field National Championships, the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association announced in its USTFCCCA NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track & Field National Team Computer Rankings.

The Sea Gulls earned 56.52 points in the poll, following a strong performance in the Salisbury Elite Meet on Thursday, May 19. In the meet, senior Luke Campbell, junior Jerel Madison, and sophomores Zach Schmelz and Eric Halton broke the school record in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:12.62 to finish first in the race and set the No. 7 time in the country.

The team qualified for the outdoor championships with that time, while Campbell will also compete in the national title meet in the 110- and 400-meter hurdles.

The Salisbury men also earned the No. 28 ranking in the USTFCCCA NCAA Division III Track & Field Team Dual Meet Rankings with 183.77 points.

The Sea Gulls will open the outdoor national championships on Thursday, May 26 at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa with the 400 hurdles preliminary races; the event is set for 3 p.m., Eastern Time.
