NEW ORLEANS – The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced its 2016 Preseason Outdoor Track & Field National Team Computer Rankings, and the Salisbury University men's track & field team begins the season ranked No. 10 in the country, the organization announced.
The Sea Gulls tallied 68.02 points in the poll to earn a spot in the top 10. The team is coming off of a 2015 season in which it finished fourth in the country at the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships. Salisbury earned 31 points at the national championships, while adding 13 All-American awards and setting four school records.
After taking seventh in the country at the 2016 NCAA Division III indoor championships, the Gulls have momentum heading into the spring. Salisbury earned 20 points during the indoor meet, which included two individual national championships in the 60-meter hurdles and the 4x400-meter relay.
The preseason rankings were led by No. 1 University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (171.49 points), No. 2 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (112.51 points), and No. 3 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (111.70 points). No. 4 Monmouth (Ill.) College (90.80 points) and No. 5 University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (86.73 points) rounded out the preseason top five.
With two spring meets already down, the Sea Gulls continue their outdoor season on Saturday, March 26 at Goucher College for the Goucher College Classic; the meet is set for 9 a.m.
