Men's track & field moves up to No. 16 in latest national rankings

NEW ORLEANS – The Salisbury University men's track & field team saw its first action of 2016 on Saturday at the George Mason University Open Patriot Games. After a strong showing, the Sea Gulls moved up to No. 16 in the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association NCAA Division III Men's Indoor Track & Field National Team Computer Rankings, the organization announced on Tuesday.

Salisbury earned 41.73 points in the rankings, jumping one spot from No. 17 last week. Senior Luke Campbell led the team through the Patriot Games, after earning two first-place finishes and taking the No. 1 spot in the country in the 400-meter dash and the 60-meter hurdles. In all, the team totaled nine placements in the top five in the meet.

The top five of the rankings remained unchanged with No. 1 University of Wisconsin-La Crosse holding the top spot with 163.46 points. No. 2 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (117.78 points), No. 3 University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (95.97 points), No. 4 North Central College (93.67 points), and No. 5 St. Olaf College (90.27 points) rounded out the top five.

Salisbury is next in action at the Vince Brown Invitational at Christopher Newport University on Saturday, February 6; the meet is set to begin at 9 a.m.
