YORK, Pa. – The Salisbury University men's track & field team swept the Capital Athletic Conference's weekly awards, with senior Luke Campbell earning the CAC men's Track Athlete of the Week and sophomore Matthew Adedeji earning the CAC men's Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.
Campbell tallied two first-place finishes at the George Mason University Open Patriot Games on Saturday, taking over the top spot in the country in both the 400-meter dash and the 60-meter hurdles. He finished the 400 in 49.07 seconds, which was only .02 seconds off of the Salisbury program record, just after notching an 8.04-second effort in the 60 hurdles.
He also helped the Gulls' 4x400-meter relay team to third place in the race with a 3:21.17 finish; that time currently ranks fourth in the country.
Adedeji led the Sea Gulls in the field events with two top-five finishes in the jumps. He took third in the triple jump with a personal-best mark of 44' 9.75" and placed fifth in the high jump with a 6' 2.25" leap. His triple jump mark is currently tops in the CAC.
This marks the first CAC weekly awards for both Campbell and Adedeji this season.
