NEW ORLEANS – The Salisbury University men's track & field team opened its indoor season on Saturday, December 5, in the Christopher Newport University Holiday Open, and the Sea Gulls will enter their next meet in the nation's top 25 at No. 19 in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association preseason computer rankings.
The Sea Gulls earned 40.89 points in the preseason ranking, less than two points behind Central (Iowa) College.
In Salisbury's season-opening meet at CNU, they were led by senior Luke Campbell, who picked up right where he left off from last season. He took first in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.14 seconds. Campbell is the reigning national champion in the event, which was the first of three national titles for the Brunswick, Md., native during the 2015-16 indoor and outdoor seasons.
Salisbury continues its season on Saturday, January 23 at Ursinus College in the Collegeville Classic; the meet is set to begin at 10 a.m.
