NEW ORLEANS – The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association released its most recent national rankings on Tuesday, and the Salisbury University men's track & field team came in at No. 20 in the poll.
The Sea Gulls competed in their second indoor meet of the season, taking first overall in the Collegeville Classic at Ursinus College with 138 points. SU tallied six first-place finishes and 17 top-five finishes on the day.
SU earned 39.07 points in the rankings, coming in just .05 points behind No. 19 Wartburg College.
The top-five teams in the country were led by No. 1 North Central (Ill.) College with 185.46 points, while No. 2 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (158.71 points), No. 3 University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (158.45 points), No. 4 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (135.66 points), and No. 5 Mount Union College (130.79 points) rounded out the top five.
The Sea Gull men also made the regional rankings, as the No. 1 team in the Mideast Region with 315.90 points. The Salisbury women's track & field team came in fifth in the Mideast, tallying 143.80 points.
Salisbury will compete again on Friday, January 30 in day-one action of the George Mason University Open; the meet is set to begin at 10 a.m.
