NEW ORLEANS – The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced its Division III academic awards for the 2014 track & field season with both Salisbury University teams and junior Thomas Burke being honored.
Burke was one of 276 men to earn all-academic honors, while 93 men's teams and 158 women's teams were named to the all-academic lists.
To be eligible individually, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 and have either competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship or finished the regular season ranked in the national top 35 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 25 (collective listing) in a relay event.
Burke finished the season with the 24th-fastest time in the nation in the 800-meter run.
The Salisbury men's team recorded a team cumulative GPA of 3.15 to earn the honor, while the women's team came in with an impressive 3.30 cumulative GPA. Salisbury was the only Capital Athletic Conference member with a men's team on the list, while the Christopher Newport women joined the Sea Gulls on the list of honorees.
Teams must record a 3.10 cumulative GPA to receive the honor.
