NEW ORLEANS – The Salisbury University men's track & field team is two weeks into the outdoor portion of its schedule and the Sea Gulls have found themselves at No. 9 in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's preseason computer rankings.
The computer rankings are a combination of performances during the 2014 outdoor season and the performances from 2013 of returning student-athletes. Through two outdoor meets, Salisbury has eight top-20 performances in the nation for this outdoor season, led by junior Dylan Burkett's third-ranked effort in the discus and classmate Devon Hopkins' fourth-ranked time in the 110-meter hurdles.
The No. 9 spot is the highest for Salisbury in the rankings since the final ranking of the 2010 season, in which the Sea Gulls were ranked fourth. Last year, Salisbury reached No. 10 nationally.
Salisbury is one of two Capital Athletic Conference teams in the top 25, with CAC newcomer Christopher Newport University ranked No. 10. The CAC sits as the fourth-ranked conference in the country.
The Sea Gulls will look to improve upon their performances and ranking this Saturday, March 29 as they travel to the Goucher Invitational in Towson, Md.
