Small contingent sets personal records at Susquehanna Invitational

SELLINSGROVE, Pa. – A select group of Salisbury University track & field athletes made the trip to the Susquehanna Invitational, as the final tune-up before next week's Capital Athletic Conference Indoor Championships.


Junior Ryan DiPascale led a group of Sea Gulls in the shot put, claiming the win, with a career-best effort of 49' 8.25". He was followed closely by teammate Dylan Burkett, who took second with a throw of 49' 5".

Freshman Andrew Volz was nearly two feet better than his previous personal best, placing seventh with a top distance of 43' 9".

Burkett set a personal record, with a top distance of 50' 6.25" in the weight throw, placing second in the event. He was followed by teammates, junior Jeffrey Jordan who finished fourth with a top effort of 47' 9.25" and sophomore Carlos Likins whose best distance was 44' 9.75" to take seventh. Jordon and Likins also set personal records with their efforts.

Freshman Jason White matched his season best in the pole vault, clearing 13' 5.25" to place fourth while classmate Tyler Trainer finished ninth, clearing 11' 11.75".


Senior Sadie Mangold grabbed a third-place finish in the weight throw, with her top effort covering 42' 9.5", while sophomore Kate Forte placed seventh with a 36' 5" toss.

Mangold also placed 10th in the shot put, with a best effort of 33' 1.25".

Seniors Erika Gerhold cleared Nancy Gompers each cleared 8' 11.75" in the pole vault to tie for sixth place.

The full Sea Gull teams will travel to Christopher Newport University next Saturday, Feb. 22, for the CAC championships. The Salisbury men are the two-time defending champions of the event, while the women claimed the title in 2012.
