YORK, Pa. – The Capital Athletic Conference announced its weekly track & field awards on Tuesday and a trio of Salisbury University student-athletes were honored.
Sophomore Luke Campbell and junior Dylan Burkett were named the men's Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, while freshman Sarah Taylor was named the women's Field Athlete of the Week for their performances at the Vince Brown Invitational on Saturday at Christopher Newport University.
Campbell continued his dominance in the 60-meter hurdles in his collegiate career, taking the top spot in the event on Saturday, covering the distance in 8.07 seconds, breaking his own school and CAC record with a time that is currently tied for the second-fastest in Division III this season. Campbell also helped the 4x400-meter relay team to a win, with a time of 3:25.67.
Burkett earned his honor for his performance in the throwing competitions, placing fourth in the weight throw, with a top effort of 49' 2.25", as the top Division III competitor in the field. Burkett also earned a seventh-place finish in the shot put, with a top effort of 46' 10".
Taylor, competing in her third collegiate event, broke the school record in the pole vault for the third time. The Pasadena, Md., native cleared 10' 6", half a foot higher than the previous school record.
The Sea Gulls return to action this Friday, Feb. 14 at the Susquehanna Invitational.
