YORK, Pa. – The Capital Athletic Conference released its weekly track & field awards on Tuesday, and for the second time this season, Salisbury University student-athletes have picked up a clean sweep of the honors due to their performances at Saturday's Goucher Classic.
Junior Matthew Hallenbeck and sophomore Dylan Burkett claimed the men's Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors, respectively, while seniors Anna Steinman and Chelsea Tavik were named the women's Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively.
Four Sea Gulls, including Tavik, swept the awards just two weeks ago on March 19. These are the only two times that a school has picked up all four awards in a single week this season, dating back to the beginning of the indoor season.
Hallenbeck earned two event victories, taking the 800-meter run (1:59.13) and the 1,500-meter run (4:11.32) while helping his team in the 4x400-meter relay (3:30.79) to a second-place finish.
Burkett won the shot put (45' 3") and the discus (141' 11"), beating out 16 other student-athletes, and took third in the hammer throw (140' 3").
Steinman came home with wins in the 800-meter run (2:29.47) and the 1,500-meter run (5:04.63).
Tavik won three events, claiming the shot put (47' 1"), discus (120' 11") and the hammer throw (136' 6"). Her effort in the shot put set a stadium record.
The quartet will be part of a Sea Gull team which travels to Durham, N.C., for the Duke Invitational this Friday and Saturday, April 5 and 6.
