SELLINSGROVE, Pa. – The Salisbury University men's and women's track & field teams picked up four event wins on Saturday at the Susquehanna Invitational, the teams' final tune-up before the Capital Athletic Conference Indoor Championships.
Senior Chelsea Tavik climbed the national standings list with wins in both the shot put and weight throw on Saturday. Tavik entered the weekend with the 36th-best effort nationally in the weight throw and put up a distance only 13 others had bettered leading into Saturday's competitions, with a heave of 53' 10.5", which was just three-quarters of an inch shy of the school record. Her effort of 45' 6.25" in the shot put moves her into the top 10 nationally.
Freshman Xavier Stinson picked up his second high jump win of the season, clearing a height of 6' 2", while senior Jacob Adedeji placed sixth, covering 5' 10". Adedeji also earned a win in the 200-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 23.22 seconds.
Junior Matt McMurdo earned a third-place finish in the shot put, with a top distance of 50' 2.75", leading three Gulls in the top seven. Sophomores Ryan DiPascale (47' 4.25") and Dylan Burkett (46' 9") finished sixth and seventh. Burkett also placed fifth in the men's weight throw with a top effort of 48' 8.25".
The Sea Gulls will look to defend their inaugural men's and women's CAC indoor championships next Sunday, Feb. 17 at George Mason University. The meet will begin at 10:30 a.m.
