YORK, Pa. – The Capital Athletic Conference announced its weekly track & field awards on Tuesday and Salisbury University senior Jay Drenner and sophomore Kara Tolson have garnered weekly honors following record-setting performances at the CNU New Captains' Classic, hosted by Christopher Newport University.
Tolson had two record performances, as she posted a 12.40-second time in the 100-meter dash and ran the 200-meter dash in a blistering 25.15 seconds to be named CAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week. Her 100 time matched the school record of Kristen Owings, which had gone untouched since 1994. Tolson broke her own school mark in the 200, topping her previous record by more than three-tenths of a second. The 25.15 seconds is the 13th-best 200 time in the nation this season in Division III.
Drenner has become accustomed to breaking his own school record in the men's hammer throw, as he did so for the fourth time in a row, with a top distance of 173' 4", more than a foot beyond his previous mark to be named CAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week. Aside from his second-place finish in the hammer, Drenner also took a win in the discus (145' 10") and placed third in the shot put (48' 1.25").
This marks the sixth weekly CAC award of the 2011-12 indoor and outdoor seasons for Drenner and the fifth for Tolson.
The Salisbury teams will return to action on Thursday for the start of the three-day Penn Relays.
