NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Salisbury University track & field teams made their penultimate trip before the inaugural Capital Athletic Conference indoor championships and came back with a trio of top-three finishes and one school record at the Vince Brown Invitational, hosted by Christopher Newport University.
Sophomore Kara Tolson posted a blistering time of 8.09 seconds in the women's 60-meter dash, breaking her own school record, which had stood at 8.18 seconds.
Junior Chelsea Tavik, one week removed from her latest school-record-setting performance, placed second in the shot put with a top distance of 44' 8.25" and third in the weight throw with her top heave covering 47' 11.75".
On the men's side, senior Jay Drenner had a top distance of 54' 7.5" in the weight throw to earn a second-place finish.
The Sea Gulls will travel to the Susquehanna Invitational next Sunday, Feb. 12, in Selinsgrove, Pa., before the CAC championships, hosted by George Mason University in Fairfax, Va., on Feb. 19.
