YORK, Pa. – The Capital Athletic Conference released its weekly award winners on Tuesday and two of Salisbury University's track & field athletes earned Athlete of the Week honors.
Senior Jay Drenner was named the Male Field Athlete of the Week while sophomore Kara Tolson earned Female Track Athlete of the Week honors.
Drenner, who was named a CAC Athlete of the Week once last season, picked up two fifth-place finishes over the weekend at the indoor season-opening Christopher Newport University Holiday Classic. Drenner took fifth in the shot put (46' 1.25") and weight throw (52' 9.5"). He was the top Division III finisher in each competition.
Tolson was a part of two school record-breaking performances, edging out the previous program mark in the 60-meter dash, with a time of 8.18 seconds. She also teamed with senior Becca Stinner, sophomore Whitney Handy and freshman Michelle Clark to post a record time of 4:14.52 in the 4x400-meter relay.
This is Tolson's second CAC weekly honor of her career.
Drenner, Tolson and the track & field teams will return to action in 2012, when they take part in their next meet on Jan. 28 at the Thomson Invitational, hosted by the University of Delaware.
