YORK, Pa. – The Capital Athletic Conference announced its weekly awards on Wednesday and three Salisbury University track & field student-athletes were recognized by the league. Senior Brandon Lane was named the men's Field Athlete of the Week while junior Holly Defnet earned women's Field Athlete of the Week and freshman Kara Tolson was named Track Co-Athlete of the Week on the women's side.
Lane finished in the top two in three different field events during the Salisbury University Spring Classic on March 5. He won the long jump competition, covering a distance of 21' 1"; additionally, Lane also finished second in the triple jump and the high jump. The Hillsborough, N.J., native also earned a second-place finish on the track, in the 110-meter hurdles.
Defnet scored points in six different field events for the Sea Gulls at the Spring Classic. Defnet not only won the triple jump competition, covering a distance of 34' 10", and took second place in the shot put (34' 3.75"), but she was also good for third place in the long jump, fifth in the hammer, seventh in the discus and eighth in the javelin.
Tolson made the most of her first outdoor track & field meet, claiming the top spot in the women's 200-meter dash (26.77 seconds) and taking second in the 100-meter dash at the Spring Classic. She also won the women's high jump and took second in the long jump.
The Sea Gulls will be back in action this Friday and Saturday as they head to Winston-Salem, N.C., for the Wake Forest Invitational.
