Sea Gull men ranked fourth nationally in first track & field poll, women third in Mideast Region

NEW ORLEANS - The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III outdoor track & field rankings were released for the first time during the season on Wednesday, and the Salisbury University men’s track & field team picked up right where it left off last season. The Sea Gulls opened the 2010 season in the same spot that they finished 2009 - ranked No. 4 for the week of April 7. 

The No. 1 ranking went to McMurry University which finished No. 2 last season. Salisbury is also joined in the current rankings by No. 2 Whitworth University, No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps College and No. 5 Emory University to round out the top five teams.

The Sea Gulls are the top-ranked team in the Mideast Region, with 356.14 points, more than 100 points ahead of Haverford College. The Salisbury women also stand high in the Mideast Region, ranked No. 3. The Sea Gull women boast 248.97 points, less than three points behind second-ranked Johns Hopkins University (251.71 points). Haverford has the top-ranked women's team in the region with 364.30 points.

Salisbury will be in action again at West Chester University for the West Chester Invitational on April 9 and 10. Both days are set to start at 9 a.m.
