Salisbury women's track & field team earns All-Academic Status
NEW ORLEANS – The Salisbury University women’s track & field team received All-Academic Status from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Tuesday, capping off a strong 2010 season.
To earn the distinction, teams must post a team grade-point average of 3.1 or higher; the Sea Gulls finished the 2009-10 academic year with a 3.331 team GPA. The announcement comes following 14 women’s team members being named to the Capital Athletic Conference’s All-Academic Team last month.
In competition in 2010, the Sea Gulls swept the women’s awards in the Capital Athletic Conference with sophomore Lindsey Metzler (Cooksville, Md.) claiming Athlete of the Year honors, freshman Chelsea Tavik (Glen Burnie, Md.) earning Rookie of the Year honors and Head Coach Jim Jones picking up his first CAC Women’s Coach of the Year nod as the team won its first CAC women's championship. Salisbury had a combined 45 All-CAC performers and 65 All-Mason-Dixon Conference performers in 2010.
