Sea Gulls rise to No. 14 in latest USTFCCCA indoor track & field rankings
NEW ORLEANS - The Salisbury University men's track and field team jumped four spots to No. 14 in this week's United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) top 25 indoor rankings. SU garnered 44.94 points this week, just .19 ahead of No. 15 Montclair State.
The Sea Gulls are coming off a number of great individual
performances at the Rider/Lafayette Invitational last weekend. SU
was led by a trio of seniors in Cory Beebe (Medina,
Ohio), Brandon Fugett
(Randallstown, Md.) and Delannie Spriggs
(Owings, Md.). Beebe made his first appearance of the
year in the men's 400-meter dash, and came in 16th place as he
crossed the finish line in 50.66 seconds. Fugett dominated the shot
put field while breaking the school record with a toss of 56 feet,
11.25 inches. Spriggs took home the 60-meter dash, with a time of
6.84 seconds, just four one-hundredths shy of his own school
record. He also took home fifth place in the 200-meter dash, with a
time of 22.00 seconds, breaking Sam Sigleton's previously held
school record (22.47) by nearly half a second.
The Sea Gulls will travel to Newport News, Va. over the weekend, to
compete in the Mason-Dixon Indoor Track & Field Championships
hosted by Christopher Newport University. Last year the men's team
came in second place overall, with the women coming in fourth
place.
