Spriggs sprints his way into the record books; runs for national title tomorrow

GREENCASTLE, Ind. – It took senior sprinter Delannie Spriggs (Owings, Md.) nearly eight hours of travel to arrive at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track National Championship meet, hosted by DePauw University. It took him precisely 6.26 seconds to make his way into the record books and earn him the top spot in tomorrow’s 55-meter dash finals.

Spriggs’ blazing time was not only the fastest of the day, but the fastest in Division III thus far this season; additionally, his time crushed the Hollensteiner Track record of 6.33 seconds, which had previously stood since 2003. He enters tomorrow’s 55-meter dash finals, set to be run at 3:15 p.m., with the fastest posted time by four-hundredths of a second. As if that weren't enough, Spriggs shattered his own school record, a time of 6.30 seconds which he ran earlier this season.

Before he runs, though, Spriggs will have the opportunity to cheer on fellow teammate Brandon Fugett (Randallstown, Md.) who will be competing in the men’s shot put at 1 p.m. The senior currently holds the top distance thrown in Division III this season (57’ 0.75”), which is more than a foot ahead the second-seeded competitor.
