Sea Gulls hold strong in rankings, women move up in region

NEW ORLEANS – The latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association rankings show the Salisbury University men’s track & field team keeping a stronghold on its position in the national and regional rankings. The Salisbury women’s team moved up one spot in its regional rankings.

In the national poll, the Sea Gulls held on to the No. 3 spot; a spot that they have held for the past three weeks. Salisbury received 103.35 points. The Gulls are joined in the top five teams by familiar company. McMurry University and North Central (Ill.) College remain at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. The No. 4 and No. 5 teams flipped spots with University of Wisconsin Oshkosh moving up to No. 4 and Whitworth College moving down to No. 5.

The Mideast Region did not have any changes in the rankings for the week. The Salisbury men remain at No. 1 in the region by a large margin. The Gulls received 321.42 points. Haverford College remained at No. 2 with 255.36 points. Dickinson College, Moravian College and Widener University round out the top five at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.

The women’s team moved up to No. 4 in the Mideast Region. Messiah College moved down to replace Salisbury at No. 5. Moravian College, Haverford College and Johns Hopkins University hold their spots at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 in the region, respectively.

Salisbury will next be in action at the Lions’ Last Chance Meet on Thursday at The College of New Jersey in Ewing, N.J.
