Sea Gulls vault into the USTFCCCA Top 25

NEW ORLEANS - The Salisbury University men's track & field program jumped into the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Top 25 this week at No. 16. The Sea Gulls garnered 39.41 points this week, after several quality individual performances at the Thompson Invitational hosted by the University of Delaware over the weekend.

The individual performances of senior All-American Brandon Fugett (Randallstown, Md.) and Delannie Spriggs (Owings, Md.) were a major factor for the Gulls being vaulted into the national rankings. Fugett had the longest toss in all of Division III at 55' 2.75" in the shot put, as it automatically qualified him for the NCAA Indoor Championships, scheduled for March 12 and 13 in Greencastle, Ind. The Randallstown, Md., native provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in the hammer throw as he set the school record with a toss of 55' 5.25". Spriggs, a two-time indoor All-American, won the men's 60-meter dash against a field of Division I, II and III athletes; the win provisionally qualifies him for the indoor championships in Indiana.

The Sea Gulls will unveil their new national ranking this Saturday at the Vince Brown Invitational, hosted by Christopher Newport University. The event is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
