Spriggs and McMurdo participate in final day of Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA – Two Salisbury University track & field student-athletes participated in the final day of the 114th annual Penn Relays on Saturday.

Senior sprinter Delannie Spriggs (Owings, Md.) fared well in the College Men’s 100-Meter Dash championship, as he finished in sixth place out of 10 participants. Spriggs crossed the finish line in 10.60 seconds against a field made up mostly of Division I student-athletes. The senior had advanced to the finals after posting a school-record time of 10.52 seconds in the preliminaries on Friday.

SU freshman thrower Matt McMurdo (Chalfont, Pa.) participated in the championship of the College Men’s Javelin on Saturday. The Chalfont, Pa., native finished in 18th out of 28 participants in the event. McMurdo’s throw traveled a distance of 189’ 4”.  

The Sea Gulls are set to host the Mason-Dixon Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday, April 30 and Saturday, May 1. The Mason-Dixon Championships were founded in 1936; the event consists of schools from Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. The Sea Gull men’s team won the program’s first ever Mason-Dixon outdoor championship in 2009, and will look to recapture the title again in 2010. The women’s team last won the title in 2007.
