Two Sea Gulls to compete in NCAA Division III Indoor Track Championships
SALISBURY, Md. - The field of competitors for
the NCAA Division III Indoor Track National Championships has been
announced, and two members of the Salisbury University track team
find themselves amongst the elite athletes in the country as they
were chosen to make the trip to DePauw University to participate in
the
final indoor meet of the season.
The announcement came as no surprise to senior thrower
Brandon Fugett
(Randallstown, Md.), whose school record-breaking
throw of 57' 0.75" at the Mason-Dixon Indoor Championships back on
Feb. 20 earned him a first-place finish in the meet along with an
automatic NCAA qualification in the men's shot put. His
performance helped to propel the Sea Gulls to the program's
first-ever Mason-Dixon Indoor Championship title. Fugett
narrowly missed the championship field in the hammer throw, having
qualified provisionally earlier in the season.
The other Sea Gull to make the trip to Greencastle, Ind., is
senior sprinter Delannie Spriggs
(Owings, Md.), who also guaranteed his trip to the
NCAA championship just two days ago at the Virginia Tech Last
Chance Meet, posting a blazing 55-meter dash time of 6.30
seconds.
The NCAA Division III Indoor Track National Championships will
be held on Friday, March 12 and Saturday, March 13. Spriggs will
compete in the 55-meter dash preliminaries on Friday at 5:25 p.m.
The 55-meter dash finals will be run on Saturday at 3:15 p.m.
Fugett will compete in the shot put on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
